GOOD FOOD!

Richard Boyd

Are you hungry for great-tasting food? Or are you craving anything that satisfies your hunger?

Well-cooked food should be packed with nutrients and healthy ingredients, but when cooked right in order to maximize the taste, food should be tasty and visually appealing. I remember years back a friend invited me to eat pizza without cheese. My initial reaction was defensive when I was told that it would taste good. After sampling it, I was quite surprised that it actually was delicious.

This past week I celebrated my birthday, I was first presented with a birthday cake someone had thoughtfully purchased. Although it was a supermarket brand, surprisingly it actually tasted good? Several days later a beloved friend made me a delightful chocolate cake. Although I am not a cake indulging person, I found myself enjoying its smooth taste.

Then the Holy Spirit revealed something interesting in my heart. Although the store brand cake was satisfying, it was made by someone who did not identify personally with me. While being prepared it was most likely done with care and expertise according to specific standards. My friend's cake, on the other hand, was made from a motivation of love and personal commitment. Spending money, time, and effort to create it with a great deal of care.

Likewise, God's word is to be presented and taught similarly to good nutritious food. It must be healthy for our Spirits, Souls, and Bodies. Preparing God's word takes time, and it should be delivered in a manner to make one satisfied. We are to cultivate an appetite for God's word, that transforms into a meal that will bless our lives.

Years back I met a Mother who could take the most despised vegetables and make them melt in one's mouth. Sometimes the Word of God can be like vegetables, good for the soul, but disliked because of taste. Still, it is important that God's word be prepared properly. If we allow preconceived ideas and traditions to persuade us, we will miss the best meal prepared for us in love.

A church is similar to a restaurant; it's the place we go to partake of good food, prepared for our souls. Food served to supply us with the necessary nutrients made by a skillful master chef.

Blessings
